Dinner Faces

After years of dead end jobs and dreams of being either a pop star or a footballer Mick decided to embark on a course in Graphic Design. In 1992, he graduated from Leeds Polytechnic (now Leeds Beckett University) with a first class honours degree and immediately began working as a technician in the university printmaking department. Whilst studying part time for a Masters degree, he dipped his toe into the world of commercial illustration and to his astonishment his work appeared in large and prestigious advertising campaigns, many national and international magazines and newspapers, book covers, packaging and websites.
Mick is now an award winning illustrator with a client list as long as your arm (see below). Alongside the commissioned work he makes images to satisfy his own creative urges and attempts to buck the trend of bland commercial illustration. His personal work manifests itself in the medium of print which have been exhibited in galleries and public spaces throughout the UK and the USA. The content draws upon fragmented memories, thoughts, half baked bits of useful (and useless) information, stories, other people's pictures, environmental concerns, songs and euphemisms. In addition to his current position of art director and illustrator at Dust Collective Mick also devotes half of his time to lecturing in the Graphic Arts at Leeds Beckett University and is a visiting lecturer at a variety of institutions around the UK.
Mick lives in the beautiful but windy village of High Bradfield near Sheffield with his long suffering wife Liz and four whippets – Bob, Ted, Jessie and Jasper, a spotted horse called Pintado and a load of chickens (who also have names).
In his spare time he falls off his bike, supports Sheffield Wednesday FC and enjoys building dry stone walls.
