Between 2006 and 2008 Matt Rowe photographed food businesses in the seaside town of Folkestone, Kent. Rowe's images document Folkestone at a moment before large scale regeneration. The depicted businesses have now been replaced with new food outlets meeting changing consumer demands.

Portraits of Regeneration was developed with the participation of proprietors and customers at The Diamond Cafe, Triangles Cafe, The Light Railway Cafe, Eleanor’s Cafe, Takis Kebab and Burger Bar, The Four Winds Cafe, Tontine Street Chinese Takeaway, and The Dome Cafe, Folkestone.
